August-October 2024

With any project that takes place in a flood plain, water absorption and erosion are the primary concerns over the course of a larger scale project of phytoremediation. Plant and fungal diversity are vital to soil health, as well as water and nutrients retention.

After a ADA accessible pathway was installed, we scrapped and removed the top layer of sand and clay fill used. then regrading the land to provide an even dispersal of water coming off the building. Then we dug a berm 8 inches down, filled it with river rock, then added 40 yards of compost to the 10,000 sqft space. On the north side of the berm we plants a rainfall garden for higher absorption of water, on the south side a native pollinator meadow.

Project time: 2 months

Follow up remediation will commence in the spring
